RED LION YARD HIGH DEFINITION HD CCTV SYSTEM
ACL CamCom were asked by Angus McPhie to provide a solution to the security problems at Red Lion Yard Shopping Centre in Oakhampton, Devon.
Red Lion Yard Shopping Centre has an open pedestrian central area around which are a selection of shops including a bank, estate agents, clothes shops, restaurants and cafe. There are three main pedestrian entrances. Angus McPhie wanted to install a cctv system to control mainly anti-social behaviour during shop hours and also at night.
Previous CCTV companies had suggested the use of high speed dome camers to monitor the area. We discussed this option with Angus McPhie but discounted it due to the fact that dome cameras can only watch a small area at any one time and the likelyhood of it watching the right place at the right time would be minimal.
ACL CamCom suggested the installation of a fixed cameras to cover all entrances and the main pedestrian area. Although a better solution than using dome cameras it still didn't offer the picture quality Angus McPhie was looking for. ACL CamCom then arranged an onsite demonstration of a High Definition HD CCTV system. The proposed HD CCTV cameras had a resolution of 4Megapixels compared with 0.4 Megapixel of standard cctv system. The quality of the images were far superior to standard cctv images and allowed the user to zoom in on recorded images.
We designed the HD CCTV system for Red Lion Yard using 3 high definition cameras to cover virtually the whole of the pedestrian area. Although the equipment cost was more than a standard system the savings on installation costs meant that the HD CCTV system cost no more than a standard resolution CCTV system. The picture quality is superb and the system has proved it worth providing detailed video evidence for Police use.
